Richard Dünser Born in Bregenz in 1959. After having successfully finished his A-levels and studies at the conservatory in Bregenz, he went to Vienna to study at the University of Music and Performing Art where he devoted his studies to composition taught by Francis Burt. After graduation he took a post-graduate-course taught by Hans Werner Henze in Köln and spent the summer in Tanglewood, USA where he received a fellowship as a student of composition. Due to his personal meeting with Leonard Bernstein he got a wealth of new and important impressions. Mr. Dünser got scores of grants, prizes and offers on works of composition such as the appreciation prize of the BMUK, a sponsorship of the Theodor-Körner-Stiftung, a working sponsorship of the city of Vienna, a governmental scholarship for compositions from the Republic of Austria, and a scholarship from the city of Vienna, as well as sponsorships by the provincial government of Vorarlberg.His works were world-wide performed by major interpreters of music such as Sylvain Cambreling, Rafael Catalá, Christoph Eberle, Ivan Fischer, Ernest Hoetzl, Isabelle van Keulen, Alfons Kontarsky, Donald Runnicles, Heinrich Schiff, Martin Schelling, Martin Mumelter, Ulf Schirmer, Andreas Stoehr, Alexander Swete, Marcello Viotti, Franz WelserMöst, and by well-known ensembles such as the Ensemble Modern, the Klangforum Wien, die Reihe, the Artis Quartett Wien, the Kreuzberger Streichquartett…), as well as famous orchestras, such as the Wiener Symphoniker (Vienna Symphony Orchestra), the Wiener Concert-Verein, the Tonkünstlerorchester in Lower Austria, the Symphony Orchestra of the NDR in Hannover and the Symphony Orchestra in Vorarlberg.Dünser’s major works have also been documented on CDs (Mica, KOCH/SCHWANN, Caprice, Sony-Columbia).He got internationally recognized through his version of the opera fragment Der Graf von Gleichen by Franz Schubert which was performed for the first time in 1997 during the festivities “Styriarte” in Graz.Parallel to his activities as a composer, he devoted his time to teaching at the University “Mozarteum” in Salzburg/Innsbruck, and at the regional conservatory in Feldkirch and in Graz where he has been professor for music theory at the University for Music and Performing Art.Dünser has been living in the southern part of Styria since 1995.
